Freeplay (Independent play)
We all know that toys are fun. But if we take a closer look, we can appreciate how toys are also important tools for learning. Any object, even an empty box, that young children can explore, put together, take apart, push or pull, stack, and create becomes a toy. When children are choosing and playing freely with toys, they learn how to move, think, communicate, and relate to others.

Circletime (Music, movement and pretend play)
Music and movement contribute to children's overall development. Research shows that listening to and making music helps condition their brains for math, science, and engineering. Our circle time songs use simple clear language, repetitive words and actions that are easy to follow and fun for the children as they develop their listening, speaking and large motor skills. Music and movement also provides opportunities for the children to explore feelings and relationships.
Food-as-Art (Snack time/Cooking)
Children love to participate in the preparation of food. It’s so appealing because it’s a grown-up activity that is part of their everyday life. The thought of young children helping to prepare food may seem a bit scary at first, but for them, it is both exciting and motivating and there are so many things that children can learn. Our classes build on this natural interest in food experiences to teach the children vocabulary, alphabet shapes, colors, parts and whole (math) and pride in accomplishment.

Art time (Open-ended and Educational)
When you think of art experiences do you imagine a child with crayons or a paint brush in their hands? Coloring and painting are indeed typical art experiences for toddlers. But art experiences begin long before they are even able to hold a brush or crayon. When a baby notices sunlight streaming through a window or a pattern on their mother’s dress, they are beginning to appreciate beauty. They will eventually express this through more traditional art experiences such as drawing. Our art classes provide an amazing range of sensorimotor experiences for young children, who love to explore by touching different textures, squeezing, poking, sticking or moving their fingers through slippery pudding or finger paint.
Story time (Stories and books)
Everyone agrees that books are important but do you realize that it’s never too early to introduce a child to books? Even though small children don't yet understand the messages found in books, they learn from exposure to them. During the first 3 years of life, the brain is especially receptive to acquiring language. The sounds of words fascinate babies and small children. Research shows that children who are read to often, from a very early age, enter school with more advanced language and better listening skills. In each class, we read aloud stories and books for students and families. This special time together creates enjoyable associations with books and reading for children and parents.

Journal Time
Journal time (Personal scrapbook)
At Kidschool, each student will create their own personal journal. Each week, we hand out a question to each child that is intended to help them think about a concept related to the theme of the month. They create their answer to the question in any way they want to and hand it back to us at the next class. Of course, very young children need the help of their parents to help them understand the question and how to answer it. Kidschool binds the works of art, adding a customized cover and the final result is a priceless, keepsake of experiences, personal thoughts and ideas unique to each child.
